Markleeville, California

A Beautiful Day In the Sierra Nevada's

Today we woke and decided to head East over Highway 4. What a beautiful drive it was. It is closed in the winter months but opens usually in May some time. It opened last weekend so we were excited to explore and see what old man winter had done to the forest.

Winter may have come and gone but it left its footprints. There were trees that had fallen but been escorted off the road. There was still cold air up the pass and in some areas up to 6 feet of snow. Once we pass the summit and Kenny Reservoir the Nevada warm air comes. The snow ended almost immediately. We stopped by a river of snow melt and the dogs played. This is dog territory- God's country.

Once we cross up and over the sierras it drops down next to several rivers which merge and divide. It is so amazing to see all this. There were many kayaks and river rafters passing along. We all stopped to watch. We even saw a raft which had over-turned. Everyone was safe, but it looked scary.

A little further and we were in Markleeville. I love this little town. We ate at "The Deli" which has out door dining which accommodates pets. The dogs made some new friends. They were all well behaved. After lunch we hiked and then enjoyed the hot springs. It was an amazing day of adventure.
